Excerpts from Final Response Papers
Most students express an appreciation for the collaborative experience of theatre, by meeting students and faculty from other universities and comparing experiences.
“I feel the festival had a very positive impact on my academic experience. Seeing theatre work from different styles, groups, and individuals helped to put the size of the theatrical entertainment industry into perspective. “

“Now that I’ve seen some work by other students, I intend to make my work more ‘communication friendly’. My work can sometimes be hard to understand if someone doesn’t know my organization system, or work in the same field. I would like to make the work I do easier to understand for not only the people I work with, but anyone interested in knowing the details behind a design. My work process has also been changed considerable by the other fields I will have to interact with on a production. I will be more open to working with the other designers to create something that blends in and mixes well with their designs. “

“Another neat thing was talking to students from other schools, and majors. Theater really is group work! The director, costume designer, set designer, sound designer, and actors all have to work together to create a production.”

“Overall, I feel like my experience at the festival show me what is going to be expected of me at my own school, and in my own work. I better understand how to go about starting a sound design project, and what kind of work will have to be put forth in order to create a really wonderful project. I met other people, who had ideas different than mine, which made me realize that asking for help with projects can only make the final product better. I can't wait to get the chance to go back and perhaps present my own project next time!”
